Evelyn Kay Wardlow

July 9, 1944 — December 19, 2013

Evelyn Kay Wardlow was known by many names; Evelyn, ""E"", Aunt 11, and Nana. She lived in Arvada, Colorado. Evelyn passed away at The Collier Hospice at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge on December 19, 2013. She was 69 years young. She fought a 12 month and 5 day battle with brain cancer. Evelyn and her family never gave up hope and spent the last year trying to beat this awful disease. Evelyn was born to Leonard and Wanda Hildreth on July 9, 1944. She was welcomed into the family by her parents and big sisters Marjorie and Nonean. Her childhood was filled with joy and happiness. After she finished school Evelyn met and fell in love with Dan Wardlow. They were married on April 2, 1963 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. They welcomed their son, Doug, on October 11, 1966. Evelyn spent 31 years working for John Deere Industrial. Evelyn was an avid reader. Mornings she could be found reading devotions. She was artistic and creative. She loved to color and work on puzzles. Many times there would be a light on in the wee hours as she could not walk away from a puzzle. When she could, Evelyn loved to travel. Her passport has many stamps, from trips she made over the years with family and friends. A devote woman of faith, Evelyn worshipped with her congregation at the Arvada Seventh Day Adventist Church. There she was known for her generosity, her strong faith, her dedication to the Lord, and educating young minds about their spirituality. Vacation Bible School was organized and operated by Evelyn. She adored her students and all who worshipped with her. Evelyn was part of a women's bible study group. She shared her faith freely. Retirement was spent alongside her husband, Dan, competing in competition BBQ events. They were recognized for their achievements at the events, winning often. They traveled to events and made numerous friends along the way. In addition to the competitions, Evelyn and Dan also prepared their award winning BBQ as part of White Oak Creek catering. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband Dan, her son Doug, daughter-in-law Jodi, and grandkids Meghan, Hannah, and Adam. She leaves behind her sisters Marjorie, Nonean, and sister-in-law Sharon. Evelyn also has nieces, nephews, and countless friends that are grieving her loss with the family. One thing Evelyn cherished were her kittens. There was rarely a time when you wouldn't see Little. Tig, Stuffy, or Stinky resting over her shoulder. Animals loved her as much as she loved them. They were part of the family. Above all, family was her priority. Her love had no limits and she was always there if you needed her. Her greatest joy was her grandkids. Meghan, Hannah, and Adam spent lots of time with Nana. You could be sure they were well fed, well played with, and not ready to leave when there were picked up my mom and dad. Luckily, for many years, Doug and his family lived next door. Evelyn spent countless hours with her grandkids. Her warmth, kind heart, gently spirit, infectious laugh, and bright smile will forever be missed. Evelyn will be remembered at The Arvada Seventh Day Adventist Church December 27, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow. Contributions can be made to The Seventh Day Adventist Church in her memory.
