Fern Ames

Mrs. Fern Evonne Ames (Woodside), age 87, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on July 19, 2020.  Fern was born on February 18th, 1933, in Hubbell, Nebraska, a daughter of the late Johnny and Wilma Woodside.

Mother, wife and grandmother, Fern began building her legacy when she married Fredrick Dean Ames on January 24, 1954.  The couple moved to Denver, Colorado in 1955 where Fern began employment with Stanley Aviation. Desiring to start a family, they proudly chose adoption and welcomed their two children Gary Dean Ames (Teresa Ames) and Jeanette Kay Norton (John Norton) into their world.

In the following years Fern was a dedicated and adoring stay at home mother while also assisting her husband with his office work.  In 1984 she began working in Community Development for the City of Aurora until she celebrated retirement in 1996, always looking back fondly on her employment for the city. Fern spent her years in retirement cherishing time with family and friends, caring for her beloved grandkids, volunteering, gardening, embroidering, and proudly baking and cooking for anyone that came to her home.

Fern spent her life truly caring for and nurturing those she held dearest, her family and friends will talk of her kind and wise advice, giving and generous heart, warm and inviting smile and her amazing baking and cooking skills for generations to come and she will be deeply missed.

Fern is survived by her husband Fredrick Ames, son Gary Dean Ames (Teresa Ames), daughter Jeanette Kay Norton (John Norton), grandchildren Kathryn Grace Ames (Gregory Stinnett), Brandon Dean Ames, Jeanie Rowley (Brian Rowley), Amy Norton, Jeffrey Norton (Wendy Norton), great grandsons Garrett Cyr and Chad Rowley.  She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Gail Woodside and her sister Francis Ohmstede.

Visitation will be on Tuesday July 28, 2020 from 2pm-4pm at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home (11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80014).  The funeral service will be held at the same location on Wednesday July 29, 2020 at 2pm. The interment will take place Thursday July 30, 2020 at 12:00pm at Fort Logan Cemetery.
