Fern A. Shafer

Shafer, Fern A., 94, of Wheat Ridge passed away peacefully on January 6, 2012. Wife of the late Samuel H. Shafer, she is survived by her son, Samuel H. Shafer, and daughter, Joan Kousathanas, 5 grand children, Erik Shafer, Aaron Shafer, J. Ryan Shafer, Daniel Kousathanas, and Timothy Kousathanas, and 4 great grand children, Grant Shafer, Doran Shafer, Katelyn Shafer, and Alexander Shafer.. After the untimely death of her husband in 1948, she enrolled at the University of Denver. Upon graduation she served as a teacher in the Denver Public Schools for 30 years. She was a recipient of the Distinguished Teacher's award in 1965. Her life was devoted to her two children, grand children, and great grand children, as well as the hundreds students who passed through her classroom. A Memorial Service will be held, at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2012, at St. James Episcopal Church, 8235 W. 44th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. A luncheon reception will follow in the church parish hall.
