Ferne Alice Johnston

Ferne Alice (Streeter) Johnston, age 98, passed away on March 29, 2015 at the North Suburban Hospital, Thornton, CO. She is survived by daughter Nancy Rupe of San Marcos, CA, son Jon (Lois) Johnston of Westminster, CO, grandchildren Brian (Sunny) Rupe of Sacramento, CA, Christina Lewis of Coulterville, CA, Rebecca (Jeff) Huston of Lakewood, CO., Pamela (Charles) Grooms of San Marcos, CA, and eight great-grandchildren. Ferne was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and sisters, her husband of 71 years Jonathan Ivar Johnston, infant daughter Debra Sue, infant grandson Rodney Johnston of Colorado Springs, CO., and son David Johnston of Pueblo, CO. She was born in Stanton County, KS on February 13, 1917, the sixth child of Charles G. and Lucy Streeter, on a ranch in the Manter, Kansas community. Ferne moved with her husband and family in 1941 to the San Luis Valley where they lived for twenty-four years in the Alamosa and Center communities before moving to Colorado Springs in 1965. After Ivar's retirement in 1978, Ivar and Ferne lived in Pueblo prior to moving to the Villas at Sunny Acres in Thornton, Colorado in 2002. She was a life member of Eastern Star Sierra Blanca Lodge #43 in Alamosa, CO, Arkansas Valley Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, Colonial Dames and Founders & Patriots. Ferne was a devoted wife, wonderful mother and loved by all. A Celebration of Life will be held April 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Ambassador Community Room, Villas at Sunny Acres, 2513 E. 104th Ave., Thornton, CO with interment to follow on April 13, 2015, 1:00 PM, at Imperial Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5450 Hwy 78 West, Pueblo, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ferne's name to The Villas at Sunny Acres Foundation, 1391 Speer Blvd., Suite 600, Denver, CO 80204, or a charity of your choice.
