Florence ""Flo"" Thompson Brennan

February 29, 1928 — July 7, 2013

Florence ""Flo"" Brennan died July 7, 2013, in the skilled nursing facility at St. Andrew's Village in Aurora, CO, surrounded by her loving family. Flo was born Florence Marie Kline, the daughter of Ignatius William Kline and Florence Marie (Byrne) Kline, in New York City on February 29, 1928. Her parents died when she was very young, and she was adopted and raised by her beloved mother, Helen Thompson (her father's sister). Flo met her future husband, Jack Brennan, in grade school at St. Nicholas of Tolentine in the Bronx, New York. Flo and Jack's wedding took place May 12, 1951 at St. Nicholas of Tolentine, and they were married for 61 years until Jack's death in November 2012. Flo was a woman of uncommon warmth and kindness, intelligence and humor. She was a voracious reader, a gourmet cook, and a gifted seamstress and quilter, among her many interests. She worked in retail sales for many years at The Denver, May D&F and Foley's, all predecessors of Macy's in Colorado. Above all, Flo was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandma, and a truly gentle soul. She is survived by her children, Claire (Ray) Jeffries and sons Raymond and Sean (MD); Barbara (James) Ball and daughters, Shevon (Mike Porter) and Lauren (Troy Volanti) and Lauren and Troy's son Gavin (IL); John (Julie) Brennan Jr. and children David and Amanda (Fort Morgan); and David (Suzanne) Brennan and sons Jack and Frank (Englewood); as well as her dear sister, Dolores ""Peachie"" Thompson, and niece, Susan Thompson (NY). In addition to her husband Jack, she was preceded in death by her mother, brother Jack Thompson, and sister Lorraine Thompson Hall. Cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering and celebration of Flo's life is scheduled for Friday, September 27, 2013, 10:00 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Aurora, Colorado. A private burial ceremony will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in memory of Flo.
