Florian Alexander Supercynski

Retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Florian Alexander Supercynski, 92, passed away on September 28, 2024 in Aurora, Colorado. He was born in Bessemer, Michigan on April 18, 1932 to Bernard and Mary (Kusz) Supercynski.

Florian graduated from A.D. Johnston HS, Bessemer, in 1950. In 1954, he graduated from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN receiving a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then began serving in the United States Air Force. On March 2, 1957 at Nellis AFB Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, Florian married Bernice Kangas from Ironwood Township, Michigan. Florian served 22.5 years in the United States Air Force. He served stateside and overseas in Japan and Thailand. After he retired from the military, Florian worked for 17 years at The Community College of Aurora as a purchasing agent. He also enjoyed tutoring accounting students.

Florian had a passion for playing his guitar and singing country music. He made 675 volunteer appearances performing at various nursing homes and Alzheimer's facilities with his band, “Country Ole Timers”. Florian was the recipient of the “7Everyday Hero” Award in 2009, for volunteering his musical talent and time. Florian was very knowledgeable about baseball and truly enjoyed the game. He was a member of the Bessemer Speedboys Baseball Team and the Ironwood Monarch’s Baseball Team. Florian was the president of Lowry Little League and also and was involved in operations for the Aurora Youth League Raiders. Florian was proud of his Polish heritage and often enjoyed a golabki.

As a boy, he was an altar server at St. Sebastian Catholic Parish in Bessemer, MI. He continued his altar service while in the military. Florian was a long-time member of Queen of Peace Catholic Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society, served as an usher, and was a confirmation sponsor for several grandsons. Florian participated in the Rosary group in the community where he lived.

Florian is survived by his children: Gloria (Allen) Pladson, Nancy (Thomas) Wos, Thomas (Kim) Supercynski, David (Kerri) Supercynski, Steven (Chrissy) Supercynski; Siblings: Charles (Denese) Supercynski, Bernice (Dennis) Pairolero, Joan (Richard) Steiger; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Florian was preceded in death by loving wife of 67 years, Bernice Supercynski; parents Bernard and Mary Supercynski; brother Raymond (Elizabeth) Supercynski.

On October 15, 2024, there will be a Rosary at 9:00 a.m. and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Parish 13120 E. Kentucky Ave., Aurora, Colorado 80012. Private burial, with full military honors, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Queen of Peace Catholic Parish, Aurora, Colorado.
