Floyd Wilbur Hatch

April 22, 1941 — April 9, 2017

Floyd Wilbur Hatch was born to Floyd and Opal (Smothers) Hatch, April 22, 1941, in Gordon NE. After graduating from Gordon high school in 1960 he worked on the Dorsey ranch and in the fall went to Gulf Coast Bible College in Houston TX. After working carpentry jobs for a couple of years he enlisted in the Air Force in 1965. His main responsibility during his years in the Air Force was in communications. Floyd was deployed to Vietnam in 1967, where he met and married Lang Vo. He and Lang had a son while he was in Vietnam and Floyd adopted her 4 other children and a niece. During his years with the air force he moved to several countries and states. Lang tragically was killed in car accident in 1976 while Floyd was stationed in Oklahoma. From Oklahoma Floyd and children moved to Lompoc California in 1976 and lived there until 1982. In 1982 Floyd moved with 3 children to Germany. He then moved to San Antonio. Floyd retired from the military in July 1989. In the next few years he received his BA and Masters in environmental science. While working on his degrees he did some consulting work with an engineering and environmental company. In 2000 Floyd moved to Denver CO, he became manager for Natural/Cultural Resources on the Buckley Air Force base in Denver. Floyd worked here for 9 years and retired in 2010. Floyd then started a new career of buying and remodeling houses and renting them out. Floyd enjoyed many outdoor activities: Skiing, hunting, fishing, bee keeping. Floyd started volksmarches in Germany and continued over the next in 20 years. He walked in 3 foreign countries and in at least 8 states. He has climbed (7) 14, 000 foot and above mountains. Floyd succumbed to cancer on April 9, 2017 surrounded by his 6 children. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was a quiet person, but very motivated and had a strong faith in Christ. A memorial service is planned for May 6 at 10 a.m. at Sloan's Lake Community church 2796 Utica St. Denver. In lieu of flowers donations may be made out to the church for Heart for Honduras.
