Frances Lewis

Lida Frances “Fran” Lewis passed quietly in her sleep Tuesday evening September 20, 2022.

Fran was born January 16, 1928 in Boonville Missouri to Lucian E. and Mary Frances (Fannie) Harold.  She had two brothers, Edward and Thomas as well as a sister who died in infancy.  The family lived on a farm in rural Howard County Missouri until they moved to Boonville in 1940.  While in Boonville, she met Roy Rutherford who was a cadet at Kemper Military Academy.  They married in 1946.  She graduated from TCU in Fort Worth, Texas in the early 1950’s.  In 1955, while still in Ft. Worth she and Roy adopted a son, Thomas.  While they were in Ft. Worth, Fran worked for a time at Consolidated Aircraft as a draftsperson on the B-36 Bomber program.  The young family ended up in Columbia, Missouri.  Fran taught Art for a number of years at Hickman High School in Columbia.  In 1969 they moved to Topeka, Kansas to follow Roy’s job.  Fran continued to teach art privately at their home.

Fran and Roy went their separate ways in the early ‘80’s.  Fran stayed in Topeka and married Fred Lewis in 1988.  After a time they moved from Kansas to Sun Lakes, Arizona, moving to Colorado to be near their family in 2020.

Art continued to be an important part of Fran’s life.  Her home was always filled with beautiful paintings, many by herself, and other objects of art.  She will be remembered for her love of art, family and of course her collection of owls.

She is survived by her husband Fred M. Lewis Jr. and her son Thomas Rutherford, his wife Diana, their two daughters, Heather and Andrea and Heather’s Daughters, Ella and Nolie.

Also her Step-Children, James and Melinda Lewis, Jeanne and Ward Hinz, Connie and Bret Batson, Tom and Cathy Lewis.  Grandchildren: William and Miriam Lewis, Ryan and Bailey Hinz, Seth and Matthew Batson, Sarah and Michelle Lewis.  Great Grandchildren:  Sophia and Max, Connor and Reid, Tyler and Ava, Bailey.
