Frances Long Jones Martin

Frances Long Jones Martin (89), of Greeley Colorado, passed away on February 1st, 2024.

Frances was born on October 3rd, 1934, to Mary Ellen and Samuel Tilden Jones in Maiden, N.C.  She had 3 siblings Inez, Lucille, and Bain as well as 3 half siblings Cleveland, Pinkney and Maybelle. Frances met Alfred Mason Martin at school, fell in love and married on August 20th,1951. She was 17 and had not finished High School. They were inseparable and were married nearly 68 years, until Mason’s passing on April 19, 2019.

Frances a homemaker, followed Mason on his career in the U.S. Air Force. They were stationed in Oscoda Michigan, Bordeaux France, Lubbock Texas, Kokomo Indiana and Wichita Falls Texas before settling in Aurora, Colorado. There she and Mason finished raising their three children: Kevin Mason, Christi Ann, and Scott Alan. Frances also finished her high school equivalency and received her diploma there. She also worked for many years as a bank teller.

Frances and Mason loved the Colorado mountains. They loved to camp in their RV and dreamed of living in the mountains. Ultimately, they fulfilled that dream by purchasing land near Granby Colorado. They spent much of their empty-nested years there in one of the two homes they built on the same mountain. Frances and Mason helped establish the Lord of the Valley Lutheran Church in Granby and continued traveling in their RV in retirement before moving off the mountain and into Greeley for their twilight years.

Frances joins Mason and their daughter Christi in heaven.
