Frances E. Segerhammar

January 8, 1921 — February 8, 2017

On the morning of February 8, 2017, Frances Elizabeth Segerhammar went to be with Jesus and all her loved ones who have gone before. Frances Elizabeth Nelson was born January 8, 1921, to Sven August and Martha Katrina (Hultberg) Nelson south of Courtland, Kansas. Both her parents were immigrants from Sweden. She was baptized and confirmed at Ada Lutheran Church and graduated from Courtland High School. Living through the Great Depression and the Dustin Bowl days in Kansas left a lasting impact on how she lived her life. Shortly after her graduation World War II broke out and the young people responded to the crisis. Frances moved to Wichita and bought a tool box and coveralls to become ""Rosie the Riveter"", building B-17s for the armed forces at Boeing Airplane Company. There she met George Segerhammar at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. On October 18, 1945, Frances became Mrs. George Segerhammar at Longmont, CO, with George's brother, Carl, officiating at the wedding. George and Frances made their home in Denver where George taught school and later worked for the US Postal Service. They were parents for three daughters: Rae Ellen, Beth, and Ann. Frances was active at Old Bethany and later Messiah Lutheran congregations in Denver. At Bethany she typed the stencils and mimeographed the bulletins for each Sunday's service. A memory of her children was the care she took pressing the long linen cloth placed on the communion rail to prepare it for guests at the Lord's Supper. Frances was proud of her Swedish heritage and loved to prepare the Christmas dishes unique to Scandinavia. She loved her cats, her flowers, crafts, sewing for her daughters and she loved everybody she knew. Her greatest heartache was George's extended illness and death on August 15, 1986. She knew Denver like the back of her hand and even when macular degeneration robbed her of her vision, she could still guide visitors through Denver's streets. She is preceded in death by her husband, George, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Virginia Nelson. Frances is survived by her daughters, Rae Ellen Hinken, Sun City West, AZ; Beth Lohmeyer (Jim), Eagle, NE; and Ann Lohmeyer (Rick), Broomfield, CO; grandsons Joe (Misty) Lohmeyer, Hays, KS and Scott (Jamie) Lohmeyer, Centennial, CO; four granddaughters: Maddie, Halle, Payten and Dove. She is also mourned by several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Irene Bengtson, Lindsborg, KS. In lieu of flowers the family requests a memorial to Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas or to Messiah Lutheran Church, Denver. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017 beginning at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, Febuary 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery, 8500 West 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. The Memorial Service honoring Frances' life will be held following the graveside service at 11:30 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1750 Colorado Boulevard, Denver, Colorado.
