Frankie Annette Waits

Frankie A. Waits, age 83, died June 23, 2012. Born March 15, 1929 in Plano, TX, to Alger and Lena May (Baldwin) Waits. Frankie studied journalism and photography at Colorado Women's College, Southern Methodist University, the University of Colorado, and was graduated from the University of Kansas in 1950. She began her professional life as a photographer, reporter, and editor for news publications across the states of Kansas and Texas. During her career as a journalist, her photography and writing had appeared in many major publications, including the New York Times, The Dallas Times Herald, the Denver Post, TIME, and Sports Illustrated. During this time she authored an article that resulted in legislation to allow the first woman to serve on a jury in Texas. After moving to Denver in 1959, she became the public information representative for the Emily Griffith Opportunity School, to which she gave national exposure in many major periodicals and trade journals. Frankie became a real estate agent in 1968 with Billings & Co. and later a real estate broker with Perry & Co. from 1988 until her retirement. Her professional associations included President of the Denver Woman's Press Club 1966-67, National Association of Realtors, and National Association of Women Pilots. Her hobbies included writing, reading, gardening, and recreational aircraft flying. A Memorial Service will be held, Thurs., July 5, 2012, 2:00 PM, St. John's Episcopal Cathedral, 1350 Washington St, Denver, CO 80203, followed by inurnment, All Soul's Walk. Memorial contributions are suggested in Frankie's honor to St. John's Cathedral or Denver Woman's Press Club, 1325 Logan St., Denver, CO 80203.
