Centennial

Radio advertising legend, Fred Arthur, passed away peacefully at home in Centennial, Colorado on Friday July 31st.  He was 87.

Born May 17, 1933 in Wilmington, Ohio, Arthur moved west after studying broadcasting at the Cincinnati School of Music.  His first radio gig as a deejay was in Casper, Wyoming at KVOC radio. This is where his writing talents blossomed into a career by writing live copy for on-air reads.  After a few years in Wyoming, he began what would be a lifetime residence in Denver, spinning records at KIMN and KTLN as “King Arthur of the Turntable”.  In 1969, after several years of free-lance advertising and spinning records, Arthur left the airwaves to leverage his writing and producing talents by opening Fred Arthur Productions. He remained at the top of the industry for over 30 years, winning nine Clio Awards, Five International Broadcast Awards and countless “Addies” and “Alfies”.  In 1975, he was named one of the top contributors to American Humor by CBS Radio.  He was inducted into the Colorado Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2005.

In fitting fashion, Arthur closed his memoirs with a statement appropriate for his departure from this life: “Despite a few potholes along the way, it’s been a pretty smooth ride.  I only hope yours has and will continue to be as rewarding.  Not just in the material things acquired along the way, but in the pleasure and satisfaction that come from doing something you truly enjoy…accompanied by people you respect and admire, and with the support, encouragement and inspiration of ones you love.”

Survivors include Fred's wife, Nancy, son Michael and his wife, Kellie, daughter Alicia and her husband, Steve, as well as three grandsons, Ryan, Jordan and Korey.

Due to the pandemic, no services will be held.

Memorial contributions are welcome on behalf of the family at the Colorado-Wyoming chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 900 S. Broadway, 2nd Floor, Denver, CO 80209.
