Fred W. Norton

June 4, 1921 — November 15, 2011

Fred W. Norton Jr., 90, passed away on November 15, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his four children, Don (Carrie) Norton, Kerry (Bruce) Bolton, Kristy, (Rick) Garnett, Nancy Norton, his wife of 6 years, Anna Bell, his brother Phil (Jody) Norton, Grandchildren- Chris, Jamie, Jon, Adam, Benjamin, Alex, Tyler, Caitlin, Jared, Nathan, Dani and Katie and Great Grandchildren Myles, Baby B, Sienna and Lilly. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean (Haas) and his son, Thomas. Fred was born in 1921 in Scio, New York to Edith and Fred Norton Sr., the first of five children. He lived on a farm during the depression in his early years and he said that was what gave him his strength in life. He grew up in Wellsville, NY for the rest of his young years. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the LST 317 during World War II with landings on the beaches of North Africa, Sicily and Normandy on D-Day. He returned to New York and attended Alfred University and graduated with an engineering degree. His career started with Dresser Rand and Clark Brothers. He then moved to Tioga, North Dakota where he became the superintendent for the Signal Oil and Gas refinery. Seeking warmer weather, he moved on to Denver working for Pamco, Wallace Associates and ultimately started his own successful company, Kinetics Inc. Upon retirement, he spent many a Veterans Day teaching the children of Jefferson County classrooms about his wartime experiences, displaying his WWII memorabilia and emphasizing the importance and price of American freedom. He was an amazing gardener and his beautiful yard was his pride and joy. He took up and enjoyed painting in oil and water colors in his later years. A few years after the passing of his wife, Jean, he met and married Anna Bell and the two moved to Denver in 2005. This past June he celebrated his 90th birthday with a big party that was well attended by family and friends. His love of life was only surpassed by his love for family and friends. He was a loving father, brother, grandfather and husband and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
