Frederick ""Fred"" Gordon Barton, 86, a long time resident of the Denver area, passed away September 19, 2009. He was born on September 29, 1922 in Kewanee, Illinois. After his family moved to Colorado, he graduated from East High School in 1940. He received his B.S. in Economics followed by a law degree, both from Denver University. During World War II, he served in the 545th Engineering Topographic Mapping Company while stationed in the South Pacific. He began his career with the The Hartford Insurance Group in 1950 and continued there for 37 years before retiring from the marketing department in 1987. Fred was a member and past president of the Colorado Mountain Club and Focus Camera Club, in addition to other photographic organizations. He was also a member of the Hartford Retirees Group and St. Andrew United Methodist Church. An avid climber of 14'ers, he summitted over 40 of them. Other interests included camping, hiking, tennis, photography, traveling and railroading. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 45 years; sons James, Scott (Connie), and Rick (Melva) of Gunnison; sister Marty Milne of Denver; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held Friday, September 25, 2009 beginning at 9:30 AM followed by a celebration of Fred's life at 10:30 AM, both at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 3350 White Bay Drive, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Interment at Fairmont Cemetery will follow a reception at the church.
