Frederick Joseph Polakovic, 86. Died February 18, 2014, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A rosary for the repose of his soul will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Centennial, Colorado, followed by a funeral mass at noon. There will be a burial service with military honors at Fort Logan Cemetery, Denver, Colorado, at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Polakovic was born March 19, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, as the first child of Anna and Frederick Polakovic. His only brother, John, predeceased him but he is survived by his only sister, Mildred. Mr. Polakovic served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a signalman on a destroyer, the USS Ammen, in the South Pacific. After his service, he learned the trades of bricklaying and stonemasonry, and became a general contractor. In 1968, he moved his family from the Chicago area to the Big Horn Mountain area of Wyoming where he remained with his beloved wife, June, until 1977 when the two of them moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mr. Polakovic is survived by his wife of 66 years, June, and by his children, Carol Lewis of San Clemente, California, Patricia Forbes of Saratoga, Wyoming, Michael Polakovic of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Matt Kovic of San Diego, California. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
