Frederick Duane Schafer, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 in Aurora, Colorado. He was born October 2, 1922 in Taylor, Nebraska. Fred grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School in 1942. He had a talent in music and served with the 587th Army Air Force Band during World War II. While stationed in Salt Lake City, Utah, he met and married his beloved Erma Ruth Ball on March 3, 1944. They moved to Denver, Colorado after the war where Fred worked for a growing United Air Lines for the next 38 years. He retired in December of 1982 and was able to enjoy wonderful associations with his and Erma's good friends and many fulfilling experiences with their ever growing family. Fred served in and enjoyed membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is preceded in death by his wife, his two sisters, Ethel Liewer and Junne Lindgren, his sons Steven Alan Schafer (dying in infancy) and Richard Dean Schafer, and his grandson, Brent Schafer. Surviving him are his two sons, Douglas Duane Schafer and Scott David Schafer, and his two daughters, Nancy Lynette Stafford and Linda Marie Huff. He leaves behind thirty grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren that love him and will miss him very much.
