Frieda Jean (Thomas) Gonnell, 83, formerly of Antonito, Colo, slipped away quietly in her sleep after a brief illness at St. Joseph's hospital, Denver, CO on Jan. 2, 2008. She was born on March 25, 1924 in Antonito, Colorado, the daughter of the late Arthur Thomas and Edith (Anderson) Thomas. She worked in the U.S. Postal office in Antonito for 22 years and was one of the first WAV's enlisted in the Second World War, and stationed at North Island, San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her husband G.A. (Tony) Gonnell. Survivors include her daughters Linda Schilz and Judith Gonnell of Denver, four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 5th, 10am, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave (at S. Parker Road)turday, Jan. 5th at 10:00 am. An additional service will be held in the San Luis Valley at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Humane Society, 63 Inverness Drive East, Englewood, CO 80112. She was loved and appreciated by all who knew her for her spirit and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.
