Fuji Murakami, 86, passed away on January 11, 2022, at Serenity House in Englewood. She was born in Tokyo, Japan on December 21, 1935. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Chuo University in Tokyo in 1958.
She arrived in Denver in 1966 and began working for Joliffe’s Oriental, a well-known Asian antique store, in sales and translating, eventually becoming a partner with Arthur Joliffe in a new store, Oriental Galleries until 1984 when Joliffe became ill. She became an appraiser of Asian Art and a senior member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) from 1986. She was a member of the Japanese America Society of Colorado and an original member and contributor of the Asian Art Association of the Denver Art Museum in which she was very active.
Her interests included art, travel, classical music, books, and enjoying life. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Hiroshi, and Junko Murakami, and two nieces, Nagisa Inoue and Akane Kawasaki.
A memorial service will be held in the future and announced.
