Gary Francis Pirosko Esq.

June 19, 1958 — August 4, 2015

Gary Francis Pirosko, 57, died unexpectedly of natural causes on August 4, 2015, in Denver, CO. He was born on June 19, 1958, in Cleveland, OH to Edward and Sophia (Insadowski) Pirosko. The youngest of five siblings, he was spoiled and worried over, especially after his father died when Gary was just 14. With his devilish sense of humor and unbounded irreverence, he was always testing the limits, but usually in the most charming and amusing ways. Gary moved to his adopted state of Colorado in 1978 to attend Colorado State University where he made life-long friends with a group of guys who dubbed themselves ""The Lords."" After training to be a park ranger, Gary served eight years as a South Suburban Park police officer and a deputy sheriff for Arapahoe County. In one year he issued more DUI tickets than the rest of the officers in his patrol division put together. Gary graduated from the University of Denver College of Law and went on to practice for four years as a trial and appellate deputy in the Adams County District Attorney's office where he argued against hundreds of DUI cases and other crimes. After ticketing drunk drivers, then prosecuting them, Gary started a solo criminal defense practice and eventually became one of the most respected and beloved DUI attorneys in Colorado. Being a criminal defense attorney was a form of public service for Gary as he protected his clients' legal rights and worked to steer them back on track. Gary described himself as a businessman who practiced law. He bought and sold real estate, financed deals, and launched new and diverse projects with optimistic enthusiasm. Gary was accomplished in many pursuits, including almost any sport or outdoor activity, photography, dancing, and home repair. A perpetual student, he was keen to learn and master anything from financial planning to gardening to playing the drums. Gary was a generous and instant friend. He opened his home to many in need, and he willingly did the dishes in exchange for a home-cooked meal. He freely offered advice, ideas, and quips to Colorado's criminal defense bar and any young people who would listen to him. He adored women, and often pined for the one that got away. Gary was a beloved and loving brother to Bruce (Karen) Pirosko, Joan Sprinkle, Dennis (Lisa) Ross, and Connie (Mike) Proulx. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews and his two beloved Golden Retrievers, Riley and Bentley, who have found a new home in the Colorado mountains. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother-in-law Jack Sprinkle. His family will miss him profoundly. No one can fill the huge hole Gary has left in the hearts of so many. His siblings warmly invite all family, friends, and colleagues to come together to celebrate his life and legacy at a Memorial Service on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 2 PM at Horan & MCConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver 80246. Interment will follow at a later date. Donations may be made in Gary's memory to Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies or to an organization of your choice that mentors young people whose fathers are absent or who otherwise need guidance and support.
