Gary L. Newell, M.D.

Gary was born in Long Beach, California. He attended East High School in Salt Lake City, where he lettered in track and cross country and excelled in debate. He graduated from Harvard, spent a year in Oslo on a Fulbright scholarship and graduated from Stanford Medical School in 1971. Gary practiced psychiatry and enjoyed helping people. He read everything from sports to philosophy, art, science and science fiction. Gary loved to travel and appreciated the natural world, visiting rainforests and ruins. In his later years, he delighted in his dogs! He will be dearly missed by his brother Bill, sister-in-law Leslie, nieces Allison Newell and Jennifer Nethery and Jennifer’s family, Richie, Micaela and Malia. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Donations in Gary’s name may be made to Rocky Mountain Lab Rescue.
