Gary Gene Ruhl
January 3, 1951-August 20, 2019
Gary Gene Ruhl went home to be with our Lord Tuesday, August 20, 2019. His 44 year battle with cancer has come to an end peacefully. He departed this earth surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born January 3, 1951 to his parents, Herman and Carolyn Ruhl, and sister Linda in Denver Colorado. Gary grew up in Aurora, Colorado where he attended and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1969. Upon completion of high school Gary went on to the next chapter in his life by enrolling in college at the University of Denver. He elected to pursue his dreams in the field of accounting. He graduated from DU with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting in 1973. Gary then began his professional career as a self-proclaimed ""Bean Counter"" with St. Anthony Hospital System. He entered as a budget analyst and worked his way up to budget controller. During this time is when he met his soon to be loving wife Susan. Gary and Sue married on March 18, 1978 at the First German Congregational Church in Denver. They then went on to have their first child, Kelly Marie on March 15, 1979. Three years later they added to their family with the birth of their second child, Kip Allen. After settling in Arvada as a beautiful family of 4, and 16 years of controlling budgets, he went on to be an Administrator for the St. Anthony Family Medicine Residency Program. During this time Gary was honored by being elected and serving as the President of the Association of Family Practice Administrators. Upon conclusion of his employment with St. Anthony Hospital System, totaling 25+ years, he was welcomed with the opportunity to work at Donor Alliance. At Donor Alliance he was happy to contribute 14 more years of his professional career as the Director of Finance. Balancing work and family is a true art and Gary had mastered it well. His family grew when Kelly married George Crenshaw III and Kip married Lindsay Rerucha. Grandchildren were on the way and it was time for Gary to slow down. Gary retired in 2014. Retirement had many blessings. He cherished the time he was given being able to see his grandchildren, Brenley, Kai, and Gavin grow. He looked forward to the many trips he had taken to the beaches of Hawaii. He loved eating pizza and watching baseball on the couch with his dogs. Though Gary had retired from his professional career, his desire to be part of a team continued. It was with honor that he enjoyed serving on the Donor Allianceʼs Board of Directors as the Treasurer. There were many things Gary was proud of...his German heritage, a solid family foundation, his career, his 41 year marriage, his children, his grandchildren, and his growing faith in God. Most of Gary's life could not have been enjoyed if it weren't for the unconditional support of family, friends, and medical professionals that cared for him. Gary was called home and thankfully the pain and suffering had come to an end. Gary, was Husband ..Son â¦Brother â¦Dad â¦Pops â¦Papa â¦Paparonni â¦Uncle â¦Cousinâ¦Colleague... Friend. Whatever it may have been, never wanting to give up, we will always appreciate the way he had of getting things done.
