Gary Alan Scrutchfield

Gary Alan Scrutchfield, age 62 of Aurora, CO died August 16, 2008 in The Medical Center of Aurora from complications of heart disease. Born December 13, 1945 in Dover, DE, he was the son of the late Roy and Jeanne Scrutchfield. He was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School in Dover, DE in 1963 and the University of Delaware in 1967 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Upon graduation, his work took him to several locations around the country, the last 17 years working in Aurora, CO for TTS/KBC as a technical writer. He enjoyed his challenging work and his various friends and hobbies including bridge, reading, watching sports, great ""debates"" with friends. While in California, Gary was very involved and successful in coaching Little League teams and continued to enjoy sports, especially his beloved Philadelphia Eagles, even though arthritis at a later point kept him as more of a spectator. He is survived by a brother, Ronald Mark Scrutchfield of Lewes, DE; a sister, Carol Ann Matarese of Keswick, VA; a niece, Kimberly Monroe of Trinity, NC; nephews, Brian Matarese of Wilmington, DE, Andrew and Dan Scurtchfield of Lewes, DE; an uncle, Joe Poyner of Dover, DE; and several cousins. He is also survived by his loyal friend of many years, JoAnn DiStefano, of Aurora, CO, and her family. A Memorial service will be held at the Horan & McConaty's Rocky Mountain Memorial Park Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 11 AM. Another memorial to celebrate Gary's life will be held at a later date in his hometown of Dover, DE. Friends may sign the guest registry and send thoughts or remembrances to HoranCares.com.
