Gayle Estelle (Trout) Campbell, age 74, died in her home in Parker, Colorado on Sunday, February 19, 2023 after a years long battle with liver disease. She was surrounded by many of her children and grandchildren and her sister, Rebecca Boswell. Gayle graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1966. She moved to Colorado in 1977 having been inspired by the beauty of the mountains on her senior high school trip. She enjoyed a lengthy career in Mortgage Banking and maintained lasting friendships with many of her colleagues that greatly enriched her life over the years. While raising a large family and succeeding in her career she still found time to be a treasured volunteer. Gayle spent many years working with the Boy Scouts of America where she met 4 of her dearest friends known collectively as “the Scout Ladies”, the surviving 3 of whom provided tremendous support and care to her during her illness. Gayle fulfilled her lifelong wish of converting to Catholicism later in her life and dedicated much of her free time to teaching RCIA at St. Frances Cabrini and Light of the World. Known and loved by all for her loud and infectious laughter, photographs and letters from people she met on her vacations reflect how easily she made friends. In her retirement Gayle especially loved her many trips to Sanibel Island with her sister Becky and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. No one who knew her was left untouched by her kindness and generosity, and of course, that laughter. Throughout her illness she said that she hoped her family and friends would remember her and celebrate her life with joy and happiness, rather than with sadness, so as we all endure this tremendous loss, the family hopes that you will try to remember her wonderful laugh and beautiful smile. Gayle was preceded in death by her father James Trout, her mother Betty Jean Trout, her sister Laura Trout and her loyal and loving dog Stella. She is survived by her sister Rebecca Boswell, her 6 children Kimberly Condill, Kristine Dalton and her husband Ken, Daniel Montoya and his wife Misty, William Ott and his wife Paula, Kristen Merrill and her husband Tom, Andrew Campbell and his wife Cassandra, 16 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren (with 2 more due in the next month).
In lieu of flowers, Gayle requested donations be made in her honor to the American Cancer Society, and the Denver Dumb Friends League or the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena, MT where her granddaughter Kelsee is the Executive Director.
