George Burns

George Edward Burns, age 78, died peacefully on December 31, 2020.  He was born in Chicago and lived in the area his entire life before moving to Colorado permanently in 2019.  George was a graduate of Loyola Academy and earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He had a wonderful career at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Chicago, which included serving as the Executive Director of the Retirement Fund.  George always acted with compassion and patience, was fun-loving and principled.

George is survived by his wonderful wife of 51 years, Tillie, and children Diane Burns Harrison (Mike and son Tommy), Clara Burns Carpenter (Scott), Rob Burns (Susie) and four grandchildren (Michael, Brandon, Arden and Sydney). He is also survived by his sister, Eva May Laird, numerous friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his sister, Roberta Schrafel.

A private service will be held in Colorado.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago or the American Cancer Society of Colorado.
