George Burt passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday at his home in Westminster, Colorado.
He was born on May 24, 1935 to George and Edith Burt in Henrietta, Texas. He moved to Colorado at the age of three. Quickly the family settled on a farm near Platteville, Colorado helping run a dairy farm. The family moved to Dupont in the early 1940's. He attended Adams City High School where he met his true love Shirley Burt. The two were married in a small service in December 1955.
They raised their two children, Michael and Steve, in Thornton. George worked at Shell Chemical, a meatpacking plant, owned his own gas station sold insurance, and worked for Adams County until he settled into his career as a truck driver for Western Paving.
George loved hunting, fishing, camping and blackjack. He was a loyal and avid Broncos fan. George and Shirley enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing. Favorite trips included Hawaii and a cruise along the Mexican Riviera. They frequently traveled to Las Vegas where he played blackjack and they enjoyed many concerts and great food. The two were frequent campers and enjoyed the outdoors.
George is survived by his sons, Michael and Steve Burt; his four grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew, Erik and Jenna Burt; three great grandchildren, Maggie, Lilly, and Thomas; and his siblings, Billy Burt and Bonnie Koch. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Burt. His family will always remember his passions for the outdoors and love of Canadian Mist.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 10:00am at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, CO 80229. Committal Service to follow at Highland Cemetery. Reception to immediately follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of George to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
