George Mandarich 97 of Denver, Colorado, passed away September 25th, 2021. George was born to Pete and Anna Mandarich of Colorado Springs, CO on April 14, 1924. George’s parents immigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia eventually moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
From George’s early childhood he enjoyed most of what Colorado had to offer, fishing and hunting. He especially enjoyed the many times he and his nephew Larry Matthis along with Larry’s dog Snookie, would go on their many hunting trips. George also cherished the times he spent with his sons and his grandsons.
George served in the Navy during World War II from January 1943 to December 1945. He served his time in the Navy on the ship USS Clamp, a diver-class rescue and salvage ship. He was honorably discharged with a rating of Motor Machinist’s Mate 3 after earning the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon (4 stars), American Area Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.
After serving in the service George returned to Colorado and began working as a Union Carpenter and Superintendent of the construction of mid-rise apartment buildings. He subsequently worked at Richmond American Homes for over 20 years. Upon his retirement, George built his dream home for he and his wife Phyllis.
In his younger years, George was passionate about dancing with his wife, especially with an amazing rendition of the jitterbug. He also enjoyed playing Pinochle with his neighbors, Darrell and Helen Morrow along with other relatives and friends.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis, his loving wife of 60 years, his brother Steve, sister Sue, sister Millie, and sadly his two Grandsons, John David (JD) Mandarich and Scott Eric Mandarich.
He is survived by his 4 children, sons David D. Mandarich (Bonnie) of Cherry Hills Village, CO, Gary L. Mandarich (Susan) of Folsom, CA; and his daughters Diana L. Tetley, Lakewood, CO and Carol A. Mandarich, Englewood, CO.
He leaves behind 8 Grandchildren and 9 Great grand children, Christopher Mandarich (Melissa) of Lake Forest Illinois along with their 3 children Magnus, Major and Maris. Michael Mandarich (Amy) with their daughter Olivia of Greenwood Village, CO. Brandi Tetley and her 2 children, daughter Adrienne and son Andrew of Denver, CO, Michael Tetley and his 2 children, daughter Lucy and son Sawyer, Carli Solomon, Brian Mandarich and his son, Tyler, Mark and Brad of Folsom, CA.
Memorial Graveside Services are being held on October 14, 2021, at 11:15 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, in Denver, Colorado.
