George G. Martinez

January 27, 1932 — October 5, 2007

George G. Martinez Husband, Father, & Friend My name is George G. Martinez. I was born in Cokeville, Wyoming on January 27, 1932. After graduating from high school in 1950, I joined the army and served in the Korean War earning the rank of Sgt. 1st Class in the Airborne and 7th Ranger Company. After completing my service in the Korean War, I attended the University of New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, NM where I met and married my wife, Oralia Montoya Martinez on April 29, 1955. Together, Oralia and I had four children: Socorrito (Suci), Georgie, Sandra, and Martin and have been blessed with 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. One of my greatest passions in life was working for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a Master Electrician and Mentor Instructor of apprentices. In 1996, I retired from the railroad with 28 years of devoted service. Some of my hobbies and interests included basketball, football, and riding my bike after I got home from work. However, the single-most important interest was my genealogy research. Through my years of research, I compiled dozens of notebooks containing documented research of family histories of the Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico areas with several features printed in the Rocky Mountain News. Before my illness, I had completed over 20 generations of detailed research of my family's history dating back to Spain and Portugal before the historic voyage of Columbus. I am kind, generous, and always willing to engage in good conversation.
