George M. Mathews, Sr.

George M. Mathews, Sr., 88, of Denver, died November 19, 2005. Born in Denver, October 27, 1917, to Dr. Lynn and Harriet Mathews. George attended East High School and the University of Colorado before serving with the US Army in WWII. He married Laurence Munson, of Lafayette, LA, in 1945 and returned to Denver upon leaving the service. George began his career at KOA Radio and progressed through various positions in broadcast sales, retiring in 1990. George enjoyed camping, fishing, backpacking, and he was active in Kiwanis and other service organizations. He is survived by his sons, George M., Jr., Of Denver; Kevin B., of Lake Elsinore, CA; and Christopher L. (Kaye), Mathews, of Denver; and grandchildren, Kelly and Benjamin Mathews. His wife, Laurence, preceded him in death. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Shalom Park, 14800 E. Belleview Dr., Aurora, CO 80015.
