George Everett Morse Jr., age 84, died at Littleton Adventist Hospital on Tuesday November 3, 2020. The cause of death was complications associated with the progression and treatment of stage-4 Lymphoma.
Born June 12, 1936 in Brooks, Maine, George lived in Pittsfield, Maine; Ocean City, New Jersey; Port Elizabeth, New Jersey and Denver, Colorado and the Denver area. While working at a “filling station” in New Jersey, George met Nancy Platt. They fell in love and were married at 18. As a young man in New Jersey, George worked at the local glass factory as well as having several other manufacturing related jobs. Upon the family’s move to Denver in 1966, George worked at the Gates Rubber Corporation in research and development, working on rubber and composite parts supporting the automotive industry and having other manufacturing applications. George worked to complete his degree, taking night classes, while at Gates. While at Gates, George was awarded seven US Patents for innovations in his field.
Survivors include wife, Nancy Jane Morse, Daughter, Marlis Carole Morse and Son, Daniel George Morse. Deceased children are Wade Jay Morse and Douglas William Morse. George is survived by grandchildren, Holly Sperling, Jody Sperling, Mary Beth Morse, Douglas Morse, Lindsey Morse, Ryan Morse and Luke Morse. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren.
George grew up being mentored as a true woodsman in rural Maine. His father, Everett, was one of the first Maine outdoor and hunting Guides and Wardens and eagerly taught young George the ways of the wilderness. Everett primarily provided for his family by living off the land and his own endeavors and held occasional paying jobs to make ends meet.
George also grew up handling horses and his jobs growing up included a job working out racehorses around a track. On one occasion he was jostled from the saddle and had to hold on for his life to the side straps as a horse raced around the track.
Later in life, George loved nothing more than to camp, fish and hunt with his family and to be outdoors. George was a devoted husband and father and modeled a strong work ethic to his children. He started a lawncare business, outside of his employment at Gates, which provided employment and income for his children through their teen and young adult years. He had numerous interests and passions including woodworking, stained glass, knife making, and other pass times involving working with his hands.
George had heartache and sadness in his life. His beloved sons Wade and Douglas were taken from him much too early. He also keenly felt the struggles of all his children and of his wife Nancy.
Above all, George was a committed Christian and believed in God’s gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. George spent his life passing his faith and values to his children. In passing from this life, we know that George has gone to be with the Lord and that we will see him again in glory in but a short while.
