George G. Smith, Jr.

February 1, 1922 — March 25, 2016

George G. Smith Jr. Feb. 1, 1922-March 25, 2016 George Gelinas Smith, Jr. George Gelinas Smith Jr. was born in Glendale California on Wednesday February 1, 1922 to Helene and George Smith. He was blessed to live an idyllic childhood with his sister Jaqueline splitting their time between the KZ Ranch and their hone in Denver. George was enrolled in medical school at University of Denver when the United States entered World War II and he enlisted in the Navy, much to the chagrin of his father who was a Colonel in the Army. While George enjoyed his time visiting Pacific islands, taking pictures of the native girls, hanging out with the crew and drinking ""torpedo juice"" on the submarine, he took his job as Sonarman 1st Class very seriously. He excelled and went on to become a sonar instructor for the Navy after the war. While living in Denver and working at Denver Dry Goods, he met Robin McMann. They fell in love and were married on June 4, 1955. They loved each other until her passing on March 15, 2010. He was heard to say that his heart died that day. George loved his career in the construction equipment sales business, especially his time as Vice President of Denver Air Machinery Company. As the city grew, he was privileged to attend ""topping off"" parties and sign his name on the last beam of some of the buildings he supplied. He literally left his mark on the city of Denver. He was a loyal member of many organizations including the Associated Equipment Distributors, Rotary Club where he was a lifetime member, and the Salvation Army. George was a founding member of St. Philip and St. James Episcopal Church where he worshipped until his death. George is survived by his children Gregory, Jeffrey (Linda), Leslie (David), grandchildren Kendra (Eric), Richelle (Christopher), Scott (Heather), Anton (Celeste), Vincent, Gina, Maria and Nathan and great grandchildren. Memorial Service Wednesday. 04/06/16, 11:00 AM, St. Philip & St. James Episcopal Church, 2797 S. Lowell Blvd. Gifts may be made in his name to The Salvation Army.
