George, 75, passed away Oct. 28, 2009. He was born April 16, 1934 at St. Joseph's hospital in Denver. George is survived by his wife Susan, son Mike and daughters Julie, Megan & Kelley, eight grandchildren, his sister Sue and brother Chuck, and numerous nieces and nephews. George graduated from East High School in 1952 and attended the University of Kentucky and Colorado State University where he also became a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He joined the Marine Corps with lifetime friend Joe Leyden and served in Korea, then came back to Denver and married Carolyn Merrill and had Mike and Julie. He left the family plumbing and heating business for a career in real estate, and eventually formed his company Bennett, Perkins & Wafer. George also successfully invested in numerous land sites including ""Auto Row"" in Thornton and the Southlands Mall site in Aurora. George later married Susan Moccero and they had daughters Megan and Kelley. They lived in Elizabeth at the Wafer Thoroughbred Ranch where George and Susan built the largest and one of most successful thoroughbred race horse businesses in Colorado. George always had a passion for race horses like his father, who took him to the Kentucky Derby in 1948 to see Citation win. George and Susan also enjoyed traveling. Besides his love of horses, George also enjoyed working out, playing golf, attending sporting events and most of all, spending time with family. A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday Nov. 3rd at 7:00 pm at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday at Our Lady of Loreto at 18000 E. Arapahoe Road, Centennial. Contributions can be made to the CSU Foundation specifically for athletics or Porter Hospice.
