Georgia Louise Long, beloved mother, grandmother, and family anchor, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 4, 2024, at the age of 91.
Born on November 17, 1932, in Denver, Georgia led a life rich in faith, family, and service. She grew up on a farm where her family raised chickens and tended to various crops, including asparagus. This early connection to the land and agricultural life shaped her strong work ethic and appreciation for nature, laying the foundation for the magnificent backyard flower garden she lovingly tended each summer.
Georgia began her education at St. Vincent de Paul Grade School and went on to graduate from St. Francis de Sales High School. She furthered her studies at Loretto Heights College, where she earned her bachelor's degree.
Following her love of children, Georgia taught elementary school in Denver, touching the lives of countless young students. However, she often said her greatest pride lay in her role as a homemaker and in her grandchildren. In July of 1958, Georgia married the love of her life, Jerry Long, beginning a beautiful journey of partnership and family. Together, Georgia and Jerry started a family that grew to include five children.
Georgia had a zest for life and cherished spending time with friends and family. She delighted in hosting Sunday night family dinners and enjoyed vacationing in the Gunnison Valley and many other spots around the globe. Her commitment to service extended beyond her family, as she volunteered at several nursing homes and worked tirelessly at St. Joseph's Church, making and distributing sandwiches to Denver's underserved community. She appreciated life's simple pleasures: a good book, a game of cards, and walks with her dog. Above all, she treasured being a grandmother, enthusiastically attending events ranging from school concerts and early morning swim meets to soccer games and baseball games.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Louise Koelbert, her loving husband Jeremiah Long, and her two sisters, Jane Wilkins and JoAnn Langfield.
Georgia is survived by her children: Timothy (Michele) Long, John (Janna) Long, Eileen Long, Anne Long, and Joseph (Gidget) Long. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Chelsea, Meghan, Sean, Joseph, Aiden, Andrew, and Charleigh Jo.
