In Loving Memory Gerald Paul Klein, age 65, of Littleton, CO, passed away May, 16, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 7, 1944, in Underwood, North Dakota. He lived in the Boulder/Littleton areas for 38 years. Gerald served in the US Air Force for 4 years as a Radar Technician. He graduated in May 1972 from the University of Colorado with a BSEE (Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree), and graduated in June 1995 from the University of Denver with a Masters Degree in Telecommunications. During schooling and immediately following graduation, Gerry worked for the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder, Colorado. After a brief stint in Pocatello, Idaho, the family returned to the Littleton area, where Gerry worked the bulk of his career with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (29 years). Working primarily in aerospace, Gerry was honored with the Invention of the Year Award in 2001, and was awarded a patent for an ""Ignition Detection System"" for the Atlas Launch Vehicle Program. Gerry accomplished many unique designs for launch pad complexes and worked extensively on the development and testing of the MMU (Manned Maneuvering Unit â Buck Rodgers Back Pack). In October 1963, Gerry married Betty Lorene Zoller in Goodrich, North Dakota. In June 1967 their first child, Wendy Rae, arrived; and in February 1974, their second child, Keith Alan, was born. Gerry was very active in different churches over the years in teaching and musical ministries. Gerry was very passionate for Christ and for people. His hobbies also included motorcycling, boating, traveling, enjoying the Rocky Mountains, and spending time with his family. Gerry was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel. He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Wendy and Keith (Kris); his mother, Leona Schiller; four brothers, Chuck, Dave and Bob Klein, and Fred Schiller; and a sister, Kathleen Lawman; and many nieces and a nephew, as well as aunts and uncles.
