His family later moved to Mitchell, Nebraska where he graduated from Mitchell High School in 1950. Following retirement, Gerald continued pursuing his passions in community service, always doing his best to make his community a great place to live. He also loved assisting friends, neighbors, and family as a handyman, whether it involved installing floors, fixing plumbing and electrical issues/appliances, and installing garage doors/openers.
