Geraldine ""Jeri"" Jackson

July 16, 1929 — August 28, 2010

Geraldine ""Jeri"" Norma Jackson was the fourth of five children born to Dennis Leroy Hudson and Alice Eugene Payne on July 16, 1929 in Denver, Colorado. In 1944 she graduated from Manual High School. At the age of 19, She moved to New York and attended Welfare Island Nursing School, Where she eventually graduated distinguishing herself by ranking second in her class. In 1952 she married Chauncey Floyd Brewster. To this marriage two children were born; Ceslie and Diana. In 1957 she returned to Denver, and found employment at Veteran's Administrative Hospital for over 25 years. In 1963 she married William Roger Jackson, and to that union one child was born; William ""Bill"" Roger Jackson, Jr. Always a true believer in the education process, she attended the University of Colorado, Eventually earning a Masters Degree in psychology, a BSN in Nursing, and a Batchelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management. In 1986 she was awarded the Nurse of the Year Nightingale Award for excellence in human caring. All of this was accomplished as a single parent, raising three children and working full-time. In 1997, continuing her commitment to the educational process, Jeri obtained her Paralegal certificate. Her most recent achievement of pride was voting for the first African-American president, and to also bear witness to his inaugural acceptance speech. Jeri loved to cook and was famous for her melt-in-you mouth pound cake and lighter than a feather home-made biscuits. Some had registered an interest in making her secret barbecue sauce into a commercial venture. Her potato salad was well-known, and coveted and anticipated at family barbecues. In her younger days, Jeri, along with her oldest sibling Andrew was victorious in many pool room battles. Her trump card was that being a female, none of the mostly male players thought she had skills; she did! Jeri leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving daughter Diana and son Bill (Liza); devoted grandchildren, Chalin and Chanai, and great-grandchildren Esais, Telfah and Naomi many nieces and nephews and in peace will now join again her most devoted canine and friend Miss Princess.
