Geraldine R. McLaurin

Geraldine ""Gerry"" R. Gignac Marra McLaurin, most recently of Lakewood, CO, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 20, 2018. A prayer service and viewing was held at Horan & McConaty funeral home home on Tues., Nov. 27, from 7-9 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial was held Wed., Nov. 28th, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini RCC in Littleton, CO, Fr. Sean McGrath presiding.

Gerry was born in Chicago, Illinois, April 4, 1918, the second oldest of six children. She married Frank Marra in 1942, during WWII, and, while raising a family of six children, she lived in the Chicago area, Pleasant Hill, CA, and Wayne, NJ. A lifelong reader, gardener and square dancer, she also enjoyed knitting, crochet and embroidery. Her employment career included working as a Comptometer operator (a precursor to the calculator) and as an accountant for Union Camp Corporation in Wayne, NJ.

After the death of her husband Frank in 1978, she retired and moved to Brooksville, FL, where she lived for 38 years, continuing her love for square dancing, volunteering at Brooksville Elementary School and traveling the world. She remarried in 1980 to Thomas C. ""Chic"" McLaurin and was a life member of the DAV Ladies Auxiliary and the Elks #2582 Ladies Auxiliary. After a stroke in 2005, Gerry moved in 2006 to Lakewood, CO to be closer to the care of her daughter, Judith, and her son Joseph. She spent 12 years there and enjoyed dinners, holidays and outings with her children and grandchildren. She had celebrated her 100th birthday with her family on April 4, 2018.

Gerry was a lifelong member of the Catholic church, a devotee of a healthy diet, regular exercise, and a glass of wine at dinner, and retained her smile and sense of humor throughout her life. She is predeceased by her first and second husbands, and her five siblings: Clayton, Robert, Edward, Eileen and Rita. She is survived by daughters Geraldine Hardy of Underhill, VT, Judith Wyatt of Chatham, NY and Jan Marra of St. Louis, MO; sons John Marra of Brooklyn, NY, Joseph Marra of Denver, CO and James Marra of Tampa, FL; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial of her cremains will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL, in 2019, date TBD.
