Geraldine M. Tovado, 89, of Denver, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, after a long battle with emphysema. She was born in Owensboro, KY in 1919 and was the daughter of Hugh B. and Suetta Thornsberry of Denver. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John A. Tovado and devoted her life to raising six children, primarily in Aurora, CO. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Daughan L. Neel formerly of Aurora, CO, and is survived by five children, George M. Smith of Aurora, CO; Colonel Robert R. Tovado, USAF (Ret), of Lincoln, NE; Darlene Tovado of Pikesville, MD; Doreen Roe of Centennial, CO; and John E. Tovado of Denver, CO. She is the cherished grandmother of 20 grand children: Linda Caviness, Barbara J. Hicks, Robert D. Smith, Tammy L. Palmer, Deanne Neel, Danielle Atteberry, Dustin Neel, Captain Meagan Tovado, USAF, Brittany Tovado, Cadet Brandon Tovado, AFROTC, Kaitlyn Tovado, Christine Penny, Tyler Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Sean Roe, Ensign Anthony Tovado, USN, J. Daniel Tovado, Maura Tovado, Jessica Tovado and Lily Tovado; 15 great grand children: Nicole Caviness, Jennifer Caviness, Kayla Caviness, Jeffrey Caviness, Ethan Hicks, Rachel Hicks, Nathan Smith, Kyle Smith, Megan Smith, Madison Palmer, Leah Palmer, Jameson Palmer, Noah Palmer, Rylee Atteberry and Reece Atteberry with another expected in the Winter; and one great, great granddaughter: Brianna Diaz Caviness with another expected in the Spring. The services celebrating her life include a viewing at 6:30 to 7PM Tuesday at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, followed by a Recitation of Rosary at 7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, at Church of the Risen Christ, 3060 S. Monaco Parkway, Denver, CO 80222. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado. A reception will be held at 930 Niagara Street, Denver, 80220 at 3PM following the interment. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to her favorite charity, Help Hospitalized Veterans, a national non-profit established to provide therapeutic arts & crafts kits to wounded veterans recovering in hospitals around the world.
