Geraldine "Gerry" Herberger

Geraldine “Gerry” Herberger, age 99, died peacefully on Sunday May 22, 2022. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Joseph “Joe” Herberger, her father William Liesch, her mother Frances Flanagan Liesch and her sister Beverly Liesch.  She is survived by her children, Paul and Mary Herberger.

Gerry was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and maintained a life-long pride in her home state.   She graduated from the University of Wisconsin and obtained a Master’s Degree in Dietetics from the University of Iowa.  As a dietician, she worked at Mount Sinai hospital in Milwaukee and was a professor at the University of Wisconsin and Colorado State University.  Later in life, she focused on raising her children and managing Joe’s dental practice.

Although short in stature with a calm demeanor, she was a fighter and battled through rickets (as a child), whooping cough, blood clots, a heart attack, multiple falls resulting in fractures, pneumonia, COVID 19 and dementia. Ultimately, she died of respiratory failure while recovering from a fall.  Gerry always considered herself to be lucky in life and displayed this through her kindness and generosity. Her final display of generosity was the donation of her body to the Colorado State Anatomical Board, University of Colorado School of Medicine for use in medical science and education.

A memorial mass, followed by a reception, will be held at 10:00 on Thursday June 2, 2022, at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home 1091 South Colorado Blvd, Denver CO.

Burial services will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Red Cross.
