Gerry was born in Butte, MT on June 22, 1947 to Bob and Jo Martin. He graduated from Butte High School. He joined the Navy and served during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged after four years of duty. He then moved to Denver and it was there he met his first wife, Roxana, with whom he had his two children, Jason and Amy Lynn. It was also in Denver where he started his 30 year career with United Airlines/Covia/Galileo in the Data Operations Center as an operator and later a supervisor. He moved on in the company as a programmer in the Global Fares department where he worked until he retired. At United he gained many close friends and he met his second wife, Amy, whom he was with for more than twenty years. Gerry and Amy shared many common interests, including landscaping, planting trees and watching their many bird feeders being visited. Football was an avid interest in their house. Gerry was a loyal Broncos fan, but also loved Notre Dame and other college teams. He believed that football was a metaphor for life that ""one should live and die by"". Gerry was also known to be a Hollywood encyclopedia, and could name any movie and the all of the main characters after only seeing seconds of the film. Gerry also had a love for astronomy, making a point to watch every shuttle launch. He was an huge animal lover, and loved his cats and was known to rescue hurt animals from the side of the road. Gerry loved to read and loved classic TV shows. Most importantly, Gerry was a meticulous record keeper, of not only important dates in the Martin family history, but was also a history buff with a particular interest in Butte and the surrounding mining towns. Gerry's family will always remember him for his loyalty and love of his family and friends, and for his unique and clever sense of humor. He had an amazing ability to make you feel a part of any story he told. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
