Gertrud 'Oma' Cieslar

June 6, 1926 — April 1, 2015

Gert, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born June 6, 1926 to Karl and Kathe (Deutsch) Kettinger in Hanau, Germany. Gert married John Cieslar on September 21, 1946. She went up the mountain to the Lord's house after a quick and unexpected battle with cancer on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. In 1949 the couple and their young son immigrated to the United States and settled in Minnesota. A daughter followed in 1951. She held positions as the German Interpreter for the Mayo Clinic and certified orthodontic assistant prior to moving to Colorado in 1973. Reestablished in Longmont, Gert became a beloved Teacher's Aide at Longmont Estates. Following her husband's passing, she moved to Arvada and then to Sunrise Senior Center, Broomfield, CO. She was a very giving woman, an exceptional cook, she loved to do hand crafts, swim, an avid reader, and gardener, but mostly loved the outdoors, hiking the beautiful Colorado trails well into her 80's and successfully completing three 14's, she also finished 12 consecutive Bolder Boulder's. Known to her family as 'Oma', she is survived by her son, Hank (Julie) Golden, CO; daughter Evie (Steve) Elysian, MN; grandsons, Mark (Jenn) Cieslar of Austin, TX; Peter Cieslar, Arvada, CO; granddaughters, Heidi (Edward) Hairfield, CO; and Heather Becker and special friend Craig Owens, AZ; 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in Germany and Goddaughter, Renate Richardson, Plymouth, MN. She is preceded in death by husband, her parents, two sisters and brother-in-laws. She will be missed by the Humdingers and Happy Hikers, her Longmont Estates friends and the many in MN and CO. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gert's name to: Lutheran Hospice-Collier Hospice Center, 3210 Lutheran Pkwy, Wheat Ridge CO US 80033, American Cancer Society, 2255 South Oneida Street, Denver CO US 80224, or donor's choice. A Celebration of Gert's Life will be held, Tuesday, April 7th at 3:00pm at the Community Center Sunrise Senior Center, 400 Summit Blvd, Broomfield, CO. Gert's wishes were to be cremated and at a later date to be scattered over one of her favorite hiking trails.
