Gertrude A. Thompson, age 87 of Arvada, Colorado, was born April 24th in Bismarck, North Dakota. She never tired of telling stories about when she grew up on ""the farm,"" and her final year of life found her reminiscing more and more. One such story was written in a birthday note to her granddaughter Sally: ""Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday! One day when I was 4, I got on my horse and rode to the post office to get the mail. It was one mile. I tied up my horse and went into the post office, got the mail and probably a small bag of candy. Well, that was an armful, so I had to hold the reins to direct the horse -- Good old ""Bird"" â ""Bird"" was my horse's name. So, I led ""Bird"" over next to a car so I could get back on the horse, I climbed up on the car and with mail and candy in one hand, the reins in the other hand and me back on ""Bird,"" the way we went back home. Now YOU are 4! Love and a Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday. Bye-bye. I love you. Gramma Gutchie"" In its simplicity, it is the perfect example of her unwaving belief in and love for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding Gertrude in death were her loving husband Norman H. Thompson of Arvada; parents Anna M. and Fred J. Albers of Hannover, North Dakota; brother Kenneth Albers of Center, North Dakota and sister Bobette ""Bobbi"" Albers Cass of Harlowton, MT.
