Gilbert Lee Butler died peacefully on October 20, 2016 in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His remaining family members include his wife, Nancy Butler, and his three children, Gary Butler, Linda Hill, and Jacque Bird. Gil was born on June 16, 1934 in Denver, Colorado where he met his wife Nancy when they were 15 years old. Gil and Nancy attended South High School in Denver, Colorado. Gil was active with the following South High School activities: football Quarterback, baseball, and the Key Club. Gil and Nancy married shortly after graduating from South High School, he then joined the Army and Nancy worked to help pay for Gil's college. After the Army, Gil attended and graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder where he achieved a B.S. in Civil Engineering. While at the University of Colorado, Gil pledged the Sigma Chi fraternity and Nancy became their fraternity sweetheart. The Butler family moved from Denver, Colorado to Northern Virginia in 1970 where Gil worked as a transportation engineer for the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Butler family enjoyed living in our Nation's capital and enjoyed all the museums and historical sites. Gil and Nancy were then lucky enough to relocate back to the Denver area where Gil retired from Daniel, Mann, Johnson, and Mendenhall. Gil and Nancy enjoyed their return to Denver because of the many friends and relatives that they had there. Both Gil and Nancy were avid golfers, loved to watch the Colorado Rockies baseball, and NCAA basketball. Gil was a beloved husband and father for the Butler family and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at 1:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Church, 1350 Washington Street, Denver.
