Gilbert John Chavez was born in Denver, Colorado on July 28, 1932 to Frank Chavez and Sarah (Narranjo) Chavez, and passed away at Denver Health on July 4, 2016 at age 83. Mr. Chavez was a Marine Veteran and worked for the Veterans Administration. He is survived by his wife, Susan D. Kelly; children, Cheryl (Alfred Morales) Duran, Gerald Chavez, Ronald (Marlita Bald Eagle) Chavez, and Patricia Chavez, his grandchildren, Joleen Duran, Crystal Holle, Rena Garcia, Ronnie Chavez, Jr., Jessica Carrillo and Jordan Vigil, great grandchildren, Adrianna Martinez, Adrian Martinez, Zachary Garcia, Blaize Carrillo, Avianna Carrillo and Hunter Holle. He is also survived by his brother Everett (Betty) Chavez and his sister Agnes Staples. Visitation will be Thursday, July 7, 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Boulevard. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 8, 10:00 AM at Mother of God Catholic Church, 475 Logan Street. The Graveside Service will be Tuesday, July 12, 11:30 AM at Fort Logan National Cemetery. For those attending the Graveside Service at Fort Logan, please gather at Staging Area B at 11:15 AM. At 11:30, a Cemetery Representative will escort everyone to the Pavilion, where the ceremony will be held. Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Marines.
