Gilbert Pierce Hathaway II "Gil", age 88, of Sedalia, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025. Born June 30, 1936, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Gil lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to country, and passion for the open road.

Gil met the love of his life, Shirley, on a blind date that would lead to 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with love, raising five children in various Wisconsin communities. They spent 24 years on their small farm in Oconomowoc before moving to Tomahawk for two decades. In 2010, Gil and Shirley realized their dream of building a home in the Colorado mountains, where they spent their golden years surrounded by the beauty of Sedalia.

A proud veteran, Gil served in the United States Army before receiving an honorable discharge following a family loss. His professional life was defined by his 27-year career at Harley-Davidson's manufacturing facilities in Wauwatosa and Tomahawk, Wisconsin, retiring in 2002. Prior to Harley-Davidson, he worked at Allis-Chalmers and Wisconsin Motors. His love for motorcycles extended far beyond his work - Gil was known for riding his Harley in nearly all-weather conditions, stopping only when snow covered the ground.

Gil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley, sisters Florence Kludt and Doris Riemer, and son-in-law George Adams. He is survived by his sister Ruth Peranich; his children Gilbert III "Jack" (Nicole), David (Christie), Ann Adams, Thane, and Steve (Becky); fourteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service celebrating Gil's life will be held on March 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Pavilion C at Fort Logan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hogs for Heroes, an organization supporting veterans through motorcycling.
