Gladys Mae Witt

April 23, 1934 — October 17, 2024

Aurora

Gladys was born in Chandler Oklahoma and grew up in the Bloomfield area of New Mexico. Gladys graduated from Aztec H.S. in Bloomfield and was a cheerleader.

Gladys married Luis Sullivan and has a daughter from that marriage named Glenda Faye. She then married Bobby Joe Witt and had a daughter with him named Barbara Ann. Gladys and Bob lived in Stillwater Oklahoma for several years, then moved to Eugene, Oregon for a few years, then moved to Azusa California where she lived with her family for 20 years before moving to Aurora, Colorado with her husband Bob, who died in 1995. Gladys and Bob were married for 39 years.

While living in Azusa California, Gladys attended Citrus College when she was in her mid - 30s and received an Associate Arts degree. Gladys also took computer science classes at Aurora Community College. Gladys was on the City Planning Commission in Aurora and ran for Councilwoman at one point. She stayed active in the community and attended the Citizen Police Academy of the Aurora Police Department. She was also certified as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team. She served as President of the Board of Directors of the Eastridge Community Association from 1994 to 1998. She was also a Poll worker and election official for many years. Gladys was an Auxiliary Sister and served as Chaplin for a while. Many at the Eagles club referred to her as “The Mayor”.

Glady’s favorite pastimes other than community activism were traveling, working outside in the garden, shopping, and home decorating. She favored Native American decor. She disliked cooking and did as little of that as possible. Gladys loved playing bingo at the Eagles Club. She loved to socialize and made many friends in the community and at the Eagles club throughout the years.

Gladys died at home with both daughters by her side on October 17. We love her very much and she will be missed tremendously.
