Glenn C. Mowery, Sr.

Glenn Charles Mowery was born in Oak Creek, Colorado on June 13, 1936 to Max Mowery and Phyllis (Lambert) Mowery, and passed away in Denver, Colorado on February 14, 2017 at age 80. Born from a family of French immigrants who found their way to Oak Creek, Colorado, aka, ""The Promised Land"", who came by way of wagon train following their husbands who were already here mining in the US. He was a native Coloradan who along with his brother Wayne, sisters Shirley, Betty and Joann became first generation born Americans. Glenn Sr.'s dad, Max Mowery died before he could even call him father. His values were formed by very strong women in his life, starting with his grandmother Marie to his mother Phyllis, and his sisters Shirley, Betty, and Joann. The legend is these strong French women, nick-named dad ""Frenchie"", which carried with him though all his years. By the time dad was 10 years old he found his first love, sorry not the ladies. It was horses, ranching, and living as a cowboy. Glenn Sr. died a cowboy with his boots and spurs on, leaving a legacy called the ""Mowery Land and Cattle Company LLC"". While the men in his family were all coal miners and the women were restaurant and hotel owners. Dad's journey was dabbling in mining, where he was hurt in a mining accident and barely lived when others didn't. This forever founded his core value of education where the journey was long and hard from Mesa college to graduating from UCLA Dental School. Anyone that knew dad knew education was the key to prosperity. His second love – sorry, not the ladies, was his love of the outdoor lifestyle which included many hunting and fishing adventures along with being an expert marksman. His love of guns and shooting were founded by another strong woman in his life, Ida Younger (Younger Family legends of the Cowboy West). Ida was a 10-time world pistol shot champion who made sure that Glenn Sr. was ready for life's journey. Glenn Sr. made sure that his family and friends were shooting by 10 years old and never missed a chance to teach anyone marksmanship. However, Glenn Sr's. real love was for his family and friends. He lived life on the very edge by living each day just as it was his last. He walked with a cowboy's swagger like none other. He was also a very charismatically handsome man. He was old school, both tough and proud, and would be happy to give you the business end if needed. He was loyal and would help a friend in need and was always teaching right from wrong. Our dad, brother, and friend to many will be missed. He is already looking down from heaven on his favorite horse AJ, wondering where in the heck the next party is! And for the ""ladies"" that's a story you can ask Glenn Sr. next time you see him! Here's a toast to our dad. Nostrovia! Glenn Sr. is survived by his children, Glenn C. Mowery, Jr. and his wife Mary, Shawndra Hartman and her husband Steve, Richard Richmond and his wife Michelle, Glenda Rose Mowery and the late Eric Lambertsen. Glenn is also survived by his sisters, Joann(Ernie, dec.) Lombardi and Betty Deane, brother Wayne Buntin and his wife Janice; grandchildren JR Lambertsen, Krystle Lambertsen Cutler, Nychole Chamberlin, Cassidy Lansford, Dylan Benharris, Rebecca Mowery and Zeelyn Richmond, great-grandson Jacob Chase, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Lambertsen. He was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Alvarez. The Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, September 3,, 2017, 12PM at the Oak Creek Cemetery.
