Gloria Constance Armstrong

January 30, 1929 — September 28, 2017

Gloria Constance Megas Swoboda Armstrong, age 88, went to join our Heavenly Father on September 28, 2017. Gloria, born in 1929, was a native Denver Coloradan who graduated from North High School. Wife of 33 years to Robert Dean Armstrong, mother to two sons, Mark Swoboda and Mike Swoboda. Gloria enjoyed world travel, dancing, singing and music. She found great pleasure in time with her family and friends. Gloria worked until her retirement from the United States Post Office followed by time with Servicios De La Raza, Denver Housing’s Senior Communities and Westwood Housing where she started a food bank. She served as Conductrus at VFW Post 5061 Auxillary, Harris Park Mountain Community as Recreation Director, sponsor for Notre Dame Church’s Senior Luncheon program and the Boys & Girls Club sponsor. Gloria is preceded in death by her three brothers, George Megas, James, Megas, Lou Megas and cousin Rosalee Fillas. She is survived by husband Robert, sons Mark & Mike(Kelly). Stepchildren Terry Armstrong Allen, Gary (Vickee) Armstrong, Brett (Mary) Armstrong, Diane (Gerald) Shibao, her two sisters, Marie (Megas) Amarosa and Vivian (Megas) Hazzard. She was aunt to 10 nieces and nephews, grandmother to 7, great-grandmother to 11 and beloved by a host of friends. Gloria loved life, family and helping others. She derived great pleasure from her contributions of time and energy to organizations and her church. She will be remembered for her loving spirit. A Viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at Horan and McConaty Funeral Home, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 4th at 10:00 AM at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 5100 West Evans Ave., Denver; This will be followed by interment at Fairmount Cemetery, 430 South Quebec Ave, Denver. The family will be hosting a refreshment reception at the VFW Post 5061 located at 5220 West Warren Denver following the interment.
