Gloria Ann Carson, age 94, died at Someren Glen assisted living residence in Centennial, Colorado on January 5, 2024. She died peacefully with her daughter and son by her side. Gloria was born on April 15, 1929, in Pelham, New York. She was always a proud New Yorker! She was a graduate of Pelham High School and worked in New York City at Mobil Oil Company where she met her future husband John Adams Carson to whom she was married for 58 years.
Gloria loved to travel throughout the United States and Europe and other destinations. In her twenties she took a trip to Europe, sailing on the Queen Mary with her best friend Marie and talked often about that grand adventure. She was an avid photographer who always had a camera with her on family vacations and travel. Gloria also enjoyed gardening, in particular she loved roses, and meticulously tended to her front yard rose garden.
Gloria was very close to her mother Adeline who also died at the age of 94, and her grandmother Adeline who made it all the way to the age of 104. From New York, she moved with the family to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1964 where she enjoyed visiting the Padre Island seashore regularly with her husband and children. She always enjoyed the ocean, sunshine and outdoors. A big change in scenery came in 1975 when the family moved to Lakewood, Colorado. Here she made sure her two children learned to downhill ski while she enjoyed the adventure of learning to cross country ski. And she renewed her love of ice skating and other winter activities she enjoyed from her childhood in New York. In Colorado Gloria made sure the family was active in Wheat Ridge United Methodist Church, regularly attending Sunday School and Church. For a number of years she served with her good friend Arlene as church secretary.
Gloria also loved camping and always made sure the family took long adventures in the family's pop-up camper trailer to national parks all over the United States and one summer even to Alberta, Canada and its national parks. She also enjoyed taking the family on summer trips back to Pelham and the home her grandfather built early in the twentieth century. She was fond of her dogs and cats, and always enjoyed visits by extended family pets. She was a big fan of Frank Sinatra and his music and enjoyed anything to do with visiting and exploring the Big Apple.
Gloria was blessed with a long and full life and enjoyed many years visiting with and following the adventures and achievements of her five grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Kerry Carson Oesterle, Kerry's husband Carl Oesterle and their children Logan & Gardner, and by her son John Kevin Carson, his wife Eileen Carson, and their children Mackenzie, Ainsley & Liam. She was preceded in death by her husband and her two sisters Shirley and Barbara.
A memorial service will be held at the Horan & McConaty Chapel located at 5303 E County Line Road in Centennial, Colorado at 11 am on Friday, January 19, to be followed by a luncheon at the same location. Those wishing to honor Gloria's life can make a donation in her name to AeroAngel.org, a charity which helps seriously ill children travel to distant, life-saving medical care on private jets at no cost to their families.
