Gloria Sue Shelton

January 26, 1931 — October 4, 2011

Gloria was a remarkable woman to all who knew her. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She grew up in Potomac, Montana on a ranch with her parents, Odna and Swede Swanson and her older brother, Jack and her two sisters, Jean and JoAnn. She was a baton twirler and Miss Snow Queen in her early days. She went to college at Montana State and the University of Montana and finished two years of school before marrying Edward J. Shelton. They had three children, Jim, Laurie and Dena and who grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan as our dad was a doctor at that time. Mom was a member of the Indian Salish Kootenai tribe of the Flathead Nation in Montana. She raised a family and then divorced after 20 years of marriage and courageously began a career in the field of law. She became a law office administrator and then moved to Colorado and began working for the law firm of Fairfield & Woods. Her oldest daughter, Laurie Bursey already lived in the Denver area and shortly after, Gloria and her daughter, Dena, and then her son, Jim, moved to Colorado. The family was together again, which thrilled her. She loved playing golf, bridge and Mahjong but she loved her family and friends so much more. She loved hosting holiday festivals and family birthday dinners and we were all a big part of her life and she truly had a great support group of friends while residing next to the Heather Ridge Golf Course in Aurora. She retired after 20 years and enjoyed family, friends and life. She loved her six grandchildren all so much and they in turn loved her and she will truly be missed. We knew the day would come but we didn’t expect that day to be this soon. She passed away in the comfort of her home.

We will be honoring Gloria and celebrating her life at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, Colorado at 1 pm Sunday, October 9, 2011. She is survived by her children Jim, Laurie, and Dena and her six grandchildren Ryan, Jeff, Patrick, Lauren, Jesse and James. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lupus Foundation of Colorado, 1211 S. Parker Rd #103, Denver, CO 80231, 303-597-4050.
