Gordon James Miller, age 59, died of heart failure at the Aurora Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado on June 14, 2017. Gordon was born in Fort Scott on December 21, 1957 to Raymond Burl Miller and Elsie Adalene Lyon Miller. He attended schools in Des Moines, Iowa graduating from Hoover High School with the Class of 1976. Following graduation he was a railroad employee later settling in Denver, Colorado. Gordon married Brenda Weaver on May 24, 1997 in Denver and they later divorced. At the time of his death he was living in Commerce City and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Boral Aggregate in Brighton, Colorado. Fort Scott, as well as, Des Moines, was a ""second home."" Over the years he made many visits to Fort Scott with his mother, Elsie, to see his grandparents, John Raymond and Alice Ruth Padgett Lyon and enjoying time with them and, especially, their other grandsons. When an adult he continued making many trips to Fort Scott for visits with the family of his uncle, Kenneth Lyon. He also often returned to Des Moines to spend time with his mother and sister, Nancy Miller Cook and their family members. He was idolized by his nephew, Mathew Cook, and niece, Michelle Cook Reaman and their children. He always had a smile, a quick wit and a booming voice. He was loved and highly respected by all that knew him. Gordon is preceded in death by his father Raymond Burl Miller and his brother, John Raymond Miller. His cremated remains will be interred at Evergreen Cemetery next to his cousin, Kris Alan Lyon. Following the graveside service, led by Minister Jared Whitt, a Memorial Service and dinner will be held at the Presbyterian Church. Visitation and Reception will be Monday, June 19, 2017, from 5-7PM, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado, 80003.
